BACKGROUND
About Clinton Mukai
I see architecture and design as a vehicle to enhance people's interaction with the environment around them. Good design takes care of all of the clients needs, while also functioning well. Great design goes a step further to "WOW" the user.
The largest hurdle to overcome with most projects is budget. It has become my specialty to squeeze all of the design out of a project while working within it's financial constraints. It is my passion to show clients I can exceed all of their expectations.

My career since graduating from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo has been with SIM Architects. I started as a junior designer at the firm. To widen my horizons I soon followed projects from preliminary design through construction documents. From there I became a project manager and was able to take projects through to the end. Design has always been my biggest contribution.

Through my years at SIM I've been involved with many facets of the firm. I became the coauthor of our CAD standards dealing with graphics and created guidelines on the processes we used in production. As a designer in architecture school, models were our greatest tools. In a small to medium architectural firm physical models are a less economical option. Its replacement was 3D computer modeling. Sketchup suited this well and was one of my most valuable tools. I was also in charge of creating our presentation materials for interviews and client meetings. This digital marketing was completed using Adobe's suite of software. Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign were now another tool that I added to my repertoire . I helped the firm produce an identity. During my years working I took the natural road to licensure. I have passed all NCARB examinations. The California Supplemental Examination is the last task I need to tackle to attain my goal of being a licensed architect. Though I contributed by leading office standards, I was never a manager of a team. In 2018 I was given that opportunity when I became an Associate. Throughout my life I have always been encouraged to pursue leadership roles. Now I am able to use these skills. This has been a rewarding opportunity and I am proud of the team we have built, but getting here has not been without its challenges. I have found pleasure in forging deeper interactions with clients and accepting more overarching responsibility over projects. I am one that likes to get their hands dirty and participate in every aspect of projects. I like modeling and drafting as well as design and management. Being involved in the everyday "nitty gritty" is important to me and something I enjoy. Finding a balance in my leadership role to be able to stay connected to the everyday, has been my challenge.

Along this road I have traveled I have learned plenty. One of the most important things I have learned is to never stop learning. Always push to be better. I feel like I could never stop learning. That is what has pushed me to be a leader at work and hopefully in the industry. Thank you for taking the time to learn about me, I am very appreciative of your interest.
